We wanted to get away for a weekend during the holidays but didn’t want to fly or travel far. Macon, just 90 minutes south of Atlanta, is our choice for its walkable downtown, holiday activities and restaurants we want to try, like H&H Soul Food, The Rookery and Dovetail.
At the top of our holiday-related list is to walk through the Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza, where we’ll see half a million lights twinkling to the music of Macon Pops. It’s free, with four shows nightly through Jan. 2, 2022.
We’re also hoping for a visit to the historic Hay House.
