We bought seats on Row D at the Fox Theatre for Monday’s concert tribute to Col. Bruce Hampton’s 70th birthday – we’d been groovin’ to his bands since the mid-1970s – with no inkling we’d be seeing the “godfather of jambands” for the last time.
An all-star musical cast drove the beat for a packed and appreciative crowd for more than three hours when all musical guests assembled onstage to sing Bobby Bland’s “Turn on Your Love Light” as their finale. The song began with this verse:
“Without a warning you broke my heart, takin’ it baby, tore it apart.”
