What will we remember from this time together?

What will families remember from this pandemic pause? Tension? Peacefulness? Will a predicted baby boom be confined, as young parents jest, to firstborn?

More important, what will our children remember? Teenagers grumble about confinement, restrictions, life interrupted. My granddaughter turned three just as sheltering took effect. Her backyard party was postponed. For weeks, she lamented missing “school,” classmates and teachers. Instead, she spent each day with her parents.

Months in, she offered a spontaneous summary: “I miss my friends, but this,” she began, looking at her parents, perhaps wondering if she’d always have this two-on-one time, added: “I love this.”
