The Skin

by admin

The skin, or integument, is something we are constantly aware of, spending countless hours in front of the mirror trying to improve, and many billions of dollars annually trying to soften, toughen, darken, lighten, smooth, and generally change.

Perhaps if we thought of it as what it is, the largest organ of the body, we might treat it differently, because it is a complicated and essential structure, comprising some 12-15% of our total body weight, that protects our delicate organs, keeping us separate from the hostile environment around us.

Remember that next time you hear the phrase “only skin deep.”
