Just 60 miles outside of Atlanta in Jackson resides Georgia’s answer to Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil – groundhog General Beauregard Lee, the official weather prognosticator of the Peach State.
Now housed at the Dauset Trails Nature Center animal sanctuary, General Beauregard Lee will carry out the Feb. 2 morning tradition of predicting six more weeks of winter or an early spring. Since becoming a Georgia celebrity, Beau has received honorary doctorates from The University of Georgia for “DWP, doctor of weather prognostication” and Georgia State University for “doctor of Southern groundology.”
Here’s to hoping the adorable general will predict an early spring.
