Atlanta’s traffic woes remain among the nation’s worst, according to a new ConsumerAffairs report ranking the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro area as the eighth most congested in the United States.
Researchers evaluated the country’s 50 largest metropolitan areas using average commute times, daily hours spent in congestion and fatal crash rates. Metro Atlanta commuters spend an average of 31.2 minutes traveling to work and nearly five hours each week navigating traffic.
While the ranking reinforces Atlanta’s gridlock reputation, the city improved from No. 5 in last year’s report. Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and New York claimed the top three spots.
