BMWs have satisfyingly instant power delivery, surprising efficiency and stellar driving dynamics.
This is why I think BMW struggles to sell hybrids; their exceptionally engineered gas engines already offer the perks of a hybrid, so fitting batteries doesn’t add much value. The 740e PHEV adds a few more MPG and 10 miles of electric-only range, but at the cost of trunk space, handling, overall range and $7000.
Getting a hybrid BMW is like getting a salad at Ruth’s Chris. It’ll be good, great even, but you’re missing out on the buttery filet, which in BMW’s case is an M550i.
