T for Tech

Ever since it first occurred in 1969, stealing the “T” off the top of Tech Tower has become a time-honored tradition for Georgia Tech students.

One former university president even said it is “among the all-time greatest rituals,” but the school has since grown tired of the prank. When police caught this year’s thief red-handed, the school made an example of him, suspending him for a semester and fining him $15k.

At a university where such an act is considered a feat of engineering, students have been quick to react, crowdfunding over $4k to help pay for the steep fine.
