I was an incredulous Atlanta native on a Greenville, SC newspaper copy desk when photos of Atlanta’s 1982 “SnowJam” slid off UPI’s photo scanner, showing cars abandoned along interstates.
Tuesday, following a client lunch, I got stuck in Midtown’s 1180 Peachtree parking deck, where frustrated drivers honked horns trying to inch toward gridlocked streets.
Remembering those old photos, I left my car in a visitor space and walked along Peachtree, speeding past gridlocked cars going nowhere for hours.
Thankfully, some things have changed since 1982, including that our SPR team was able to work from home on The Atlanta 100!
