When temperatures rise, safety matters for all

by The 100 Companies

Atlanta’s summer combination of heat and humidity can quickly become dangerous.

For people, health officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and watching for signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, headaches and nausea. Older adults, children and those with chronic health conditions face greater risks, especially during Atlanta heat waves.

Pets need protection, too. Provide constant access to fresh water and shade and save walks for early mornings or evenings when temperatures are lower. Remember the five-second rule: if pavement is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for paws and can cause burns.
