Flu activity is surging across Georgia this winter, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which reports high to very high influenza activity across the Southeast.
The Georgia Department of Public Health says the state has recorded nearly 1,600 flu-related hospitalizations and at least 29 flu-associated deaths so far this season, a sharp increase from last year.
The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older receive a flu vaccine, even late in the season. Health officials also advise frequent handwashing, staying home when sick and seeking antiviral treatment early, noting these medicines work best within two days.
