Not too many Aprils ago, Atlanta was ablaze with white blossoms of dogwood trees, but they seem to be disappearing. A major culprit is the spread of anthracnose disease.
In honor of its 80th anniversary, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival selected sculptor Martin Dawe to grace Piedmont Park with his entry: a giant bronze dogwood tree branch. Martin had only three months to meet the festival’s deadline.
Not only will the sculpture repel any disease, it will surely grace millions of selfies uploaded around the world from the historic Midtown park that once hosted the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition.
