Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is expected to become Georgia’s first national park in 2024 and forecasted to bring $233 million into the region in 15 years. Located in Macon, the park is a 3,000-acre prehistoric American Indian site chronicling 17,000 years of continuous habitation of the Ocmulgee basin.
The push to make Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park a national park dates back to 1932. Upon certification, The Muscogee Nation and tribe representative Tracie Revis will co-manage the park, making it the first time a tribe that was once forcibly removed from the land will help operate and advocate for it.
