If you’ve never heard of a food forest, get ready – 7.1 acres, near the Lakewood Fairgrounds, will be transformed into walking trails that contain a community garden, along with multiple fruit-producing plants. The space will be free of charge and will offer Atlanta citizens access to fresh food.
Passed by the Atlanta City Council in May, the inspiring project is expected to be completed in 2020. The majority backing is from the U.S. Forest Service Community Forest and Open Space Program, with additional help from the non-profit Trees Atlanta, set to be caretakers of the property.
