When it comes to identifying gender, sloths are unique. Because all gender-distinguishing organs are internal, hair samples are sent to labs to perform DNA tests.
Recently, Zoo Atlanta received results and revealed the name and gender of its new baby sloth and … it’s a girl! Willow and her sloth care team asked the public to vote on her name through Facebook and more than 15,000 votes came in for the little one. Voters chose from six names – Blossom, Willow, Bean, Fern, Clyde and Rio.
You can visit Zoo Atlanta later this spring to see Willow in her habitat.
