People often spout the myth that 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce. What they don’t realize is that the divorce rate is actually falling, based on Census Bureau data as reported by The New York Times.
The divorce rate peaked at 5.3 divorces per 1,000 people in 1981 and has fallen to 3.6 divorces in 2011, per recent Census data. Other marital trends predict couples married in recent years are much more likely to celebrate their 10-year anniversary than those married decades earlier.
This wedding season, let’s toast to a better chance of happily ever after.
