Jazz is America’s only original art form, a surprisingly little-known fact. Queue the Atlanta Jazz Festival, started in the late ‘70s by Mayor Maynard Jackson as a way to celebrate the rich history of jazz and its place in Atlanta’s history.
The festival has hosted countless jazz luminaries, from Miles Davis (1983) to Ray Charles (2002). Forty years later, it’s grown into one of the largest, no-cost jazz festivals in the country.
Whether you’ve got the chops to play yourself, are an avid listener or completely new to the genre, everyone’s guaranteed to revel in this year’s festival.
