On July 12, Camp HBCYouth unveiled a vibrant traveling mural at Spelman College, created by 50 rising fifth graders in collaboration with Atlanta-based artist Lavan Wright.
The students participated in a weeklong workshop that taught them the process behind large-scale public art installations. Funded in part by a $15,000 grant from Walmart, the initiative brought arts education directly to youth at Atlanta-based HBCUs.
The project reflects Camp HBCYouth’s mission to educate and uplift through Historically Black College and University values. Founders Brian Wright and Reagan Fresnel joined Walmart executives at the unveiling to celebrate art’s power to inspire young minds.
