Metro Atlanta drivers should brace for a difficult weekend commute as the Georgia Department of Transportation closes all northbound and southbound lanes of I-285 between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Cascade Road beginning 7PM this evening, through 5AM on Monday.
The full shutdown, delayed last weekend due to weather, supports ongoing reconstruction work on aging concrete pavement along the westside Perimeter. GDOT warns motorists to expect significant congestion on Interstate 20, I-75/85, Langford Parkway and nearby surface streets. Officials encourage drivers to avoid the area, allow extra travel time and consider postponing nonessential trips altogether this weekend if possible.
