When a great tree falls

by sally@the100companies.com

Ever look at a tree and think about its history? What it’s witnessed? For 15 years, I’ve loved a 200-year-old red oak.

It’s changed over time, as have I. It’s grown, become stronger and wiser. It’s morphed in ways, gone to battle and lost limbs – including one with a special swing. Critters moved in and out.

Its canopy towered over three homes, including my backyard sanctuary. Lighting was added, giving it a deserved spotlight. Recently struck by lightning, it couldn’t be saved. Watching it come down was like exposing a piece of myself. The great protector is gone.
