Georgia is seeing a notable uptick in hurricane risk, with 40 counties landing on LawnStarter’s 2026 list of hurricane-vulnerable counties, 17 of them new to the list this year.
The ranking draws on FEMA’s National Risk Index, along with hurricane history, expected financial losses and disaster cleanup data. Chatham County, home to Savannah, ranks No. 36 out of 443 counties nationwide, placing it among the top 10% most vulnerable.
Georgia also joins North Carolina and South Carolina in making up 22% of the nation’s 100 most vulnerable counties, highlighting the Southeast’s growing exposure to hurricanes and their potentially far-reaching impacts.
