Atlanta sports fans are set to welcome their first professional women’s soccer team after the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) awarded the city its 17th franchise, officially expanding the league into Georgia’s capital.
The new team, backed by Arthur M. Blank and operated by AMB Sports + Entertainment, is scheduled to begin play in 2028, with home matches planned at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and an expected capacity of around 28,000 fans.
The expansion reflects Atlanta’s deep passion for soccer and its growing role in elevating women’s sports. A name and brand identity for the club will be announced as development continues.
