Bouncing back from epic defeat, despair

by Jan Schroder

When confirming a business lunch, my contact reminded me our alma maters play three days prior, predicting one of us will be happy.

I wonder why I even follow sports anymore, having my heart broken by my two favorite teams – not just losing recent championship opportunities, but doing so in historic collapses. A recent profile of Virginia’s Kyle Guy, whose team went from #1 last March to being the first to lose to the NCAA tournament’s lowest-rated team, provided hope.

Initially hiding from depression, grief – even death threats – Guy instead embraced defeat, confronted his demons and promotes therapeutic solutions.
