Tricky Car Names

by

To many of us (myself included), mispronunciations sound like nails on a chalkboard. However, it’s hard to correct the speaker without sounding snobbish. So we instead allow them to continue butchering the word until we’re mentally recoiling like King Arthur before the Knights Who Say Ni.

To lift the burden on car-lovers’ ears at least, check out my guide to some of the trickier names and pronunciations in the automotive world.

Porsche: “Poor-sheh”

Fiat: “Fee-ott”

Audi: “Oww-dee”

Bugatti: “Boo-gah-tee”

Tesla: “Tess-luh”

Alfa Romeo: “Alpha row-may-oh”

And lastly, to borrow a tagline from their ’09 Super Bowl ad, “Hyundai – like Sunday.”
