Today, an autonomous car will drive from Georgia Tech to Ponce City Market, as part of a joint pilot project, and guided by a network of sensors, Wi-Fi hotspots, GPS receivers and other technology installed along the route.
Someone will be behind the wheel, just in case, but is Atlanta ready for driverless cars in the near future?
“To create better transportation for ourselves and for future generations, we need to change how we are designing for vehicles, or the lack thereof,” said HGOR’s Chris Mutter. “As planners, we need to be proactive and design for the changes ahead.”
