Built in 1967 as a performance and convention center in what was once the Buttermilk Bottom slum, the Atlanta Civic Center is about to have a new owner.
Weingarten Realty Investors is in talks to buy Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center for $30 million. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Weingarten intends to demolish the center and build a nearly $300 million mixed-use project. The project would include office space, retail, grocery and residential units.
With this and other projects in the works, such as NCR’s new site and Underground Atlanta, Atlanta’s next generation could experience a completely different city.
