Typical of the first public housing projects built in 1941, Allen Wilson Terrace became unsatisfactory for today’s housing needs. The Decatur Housing Authority saw the site’s potential and sought to redevelop the property.
The overall revitalization effort is an EarthCraft Community, and 191 of the original 200 units were replaced at the same rental rates for families. In EarthCraft’s 15 years, it’s certified over 33,500 homes across the Southeast.
This year, the Allen Wilson development is a nominee for EarthCraft Communities of the Year at the Celebration of Excellence at Southface’s Eco-Office on Wednesday, Oct. 29 – 4:30-6:30 p.m. Register here.
