On Sept. 23, Greta Thunberg, along with 15 other children, filed a petition with the United Nations stating that five countries – Germany, France, Brazil, Argentina and Turkey – violated their human rights by not taking action against the unfolding climate crisis.
The petition states that the countries have failed to keep their obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, an international human rights treaty adopted by the U.N. General Assembly 30 years ago.
Thunberg and others expressed their frustrations to the U.N. General Assembly about the lack of urgency from leaders on fighting climate change.
