As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse, we now need to be on the lookout for a caterpillar that causes a world of pain. While they might look like a cute, harmless fur ball, Puss Caterpillars are considered the most venomous caterpillar in the United States and they’re now showing up in Georgia.
About an inch long, the caterpillar has short spines hidden underneath its thick, furry coat. If touched, the hollow spines break off releasing an irritating toxin that will cause an immediate reaction. According to experts, reactions can include intense pain, an itchy rash, vomiting, fever and more.
