For the most part, this past Sunday’s humble acceptance speeches left me with even more respect for the tremendously accomplished actors and visionaries onstage.

Victories are scarcely achieved alone; we should always think of those who elevated us to big wins, and share our newfound happiness with all involved. “A well-developed sense of humility shines through in your behavior toward others. They feel affirmed, appreciated, encouraged, validated, and psychically nourished,” writes Dr. Karl Albrecht.

Perhaps some primal satisfaction may be had from putting on a smug mug, but lasting, true happiness comes from a big slice of humble pie.
