We couldn’t resist a few more fun facts about our friend, the skin. Thickness of the skin varies widely, with the thinnest part under the eyes and around the eyelids at only 0.5mm.
Those crow’s feet and wrinkles make sense now, yes? The thickest skin is on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands at a stout 4mm.
All mammals have hair on their skin, though it may be difficult to see, and the outer layer (epidermis) contains no blood vessels.
The skin: so complicated and essential, yet some folks never become quite comfortable in theirs.
