Biltmore Estate open for tours with modified hours

Biltmore Estate

One benefit of having 8,000 acres? Plenty of room for social distancing.

Tucked away in the hills south of Asheville, North Carolina, Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private residence for 125 years, continues to host tours during the pandemic. I felt completely safe navigating its labyrinthine halls as the concise-but-captivating audio guide ferried me between its secrets.

My favorite rooms were the Halloween Room, where tipsy New Year’s guests were allowed to paint the walls, and the study, where the U.S. government hid artifacts during WWII. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Backstairs Tour that shows how servants worked and lived.
