Adopting a pet is a popular holiday gift idea. While a furry friend can be a great addition to a family, it is also a huge responsibility. Unfortunately, many pets are returned or abandoned after the holidays once new owners determine it’s not for them.
Before adopting, exercise due diligence to ensure the recipient is ready for the responsibility of a pet. Research which breed(s) may be best suited for them, considering the living environment, temperament, exercise and grooming/health needs. Arrange to spend time with potential pet candidates. Then, get prepared with all the proper essentials, including food and toys.
