“The Ever-Changing Georgia Coastline,” a new book from Smithsonian Books by Georgia author G. Wayne Clough being released this fall, offers readers a sweeping look at the state’s coastline through history, science and travel.
Clough, a civil engineer, Smithsonian secretary emeritus and former Georgia Institute of Technology president, explores 70 million years of geological change while kayaking, hiking, camping and riding ATVs across the Coastal Plain. Along the journey, he meets conservationists, wildlife experts and residents working to protect Georgia’s ecosystems. Featuring a 16-page full-color insert, the book highlights how the coast protects coastal communities and how people can help.
