Remembering Our Departed Fathers

by Jan Schroder
Father and World Word II Medical Officer

Thirteen men gathered last week for a special dinner in Morningside Kitchen’s private back room to talk about a subject we rarely discuss: the impact our fathers had on us.

The group – a mix of African-Americans and Causasians of Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Greek heritage – shared one thing in common: our fathers had all died, as early as the 1970s to as recently as last month. Many served in World War II, most were leaders in Atlanta’s business, cultural, civic or civil rights movements.

We all left in awe of the impact they had on Atlanta and our lives.
