One time I truly felt universally connected followed my daughter Sally’s birth in Greenville, S.C.
My next door neighbor, a retired Clemson agriculture teacher, watched for years as his nutrient-rich garden washed onto our hedgerow. With Sally crawling nearby, I tore out our bushes, planting corn, tomatoes, cantaloupe and squash. It flourished – as did I.
Inspired by my son Thomas’ garden in Charlotte, I planted one on a sunny plot I own in Capitol View Manor. Putting my hand in the soil brought back many positive memories – all confirmed by a recent study connecting gardening with overall health.
