July 20 will mark 50 years since the United States made history by landing Apollo 11 on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left behind an American flag, medallions in honor of Apollo 1 and a plaque inscribed “We came in peace for all mankind.”
The Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell will celebrate during the StarLab: Moon Landing 50th Anniversary event beginning at 3PM.
The goal of landing on the moon was set by President John F. Kennedy and was completed six years after his assassination. It was “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”
