The book by Mary Rodgers was published in 1972, and this tale of an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who switch bodies is still entertaining audiences. A musical adaptation of “Freaky Friday” is showing at the Horizon Theatre through April 22.
The story has been adapted into two movies by Disney, one in the 1970s and one in the 1990s. Sensing the time was right for yet another version, Disney commissioned a new stage version with Pulitzer Prize-winning composers. It premiered in 2016.
It’s family-friendly, but recommended for children 10 and up. Ticket prices start at $25.
