Before the position was created, Marguerite Alice “Missy” LeHand performed the duties of Chief of Staff for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She worked for him for more than 20 years and it was known if you wanted to reach him, you went through her. He called her “my conscience.” Yet her story has been largely untold.
Author Kathryn Smith details that crucial partnership in “The Gatekeeper: Missy LeHand, FDR and the Untold Story of the Partnership That Defined a Presidency.”
Kathryn will be doing a free reading and book signing at the Carter Library Monday, October 12 at 7PM.
