As the fall semester begins for Georgia colleges, thousands of students and teachers return to campuses for in-person classes. Although new COVID-19 cases continue, the University System of Georgia, which governs the state’s 26 public colleges and universities, doesn’t have a statewide system in place for monitoring or preventing the virus within campus communities.
Colleges are all handling the situation differently, and while they have dedicated website pages for virus-related updates, not all are tracking cases as closely or frequently. Others are seeing sharp increases in cases – Georgia College reported 69 new cases on Aug. 24, resulting in 373 total.
