Atlanta's murals celebrated

Atlanta has reached yet another milestone. Already a hotspot for murals, Atlanta saw an increase in creative expression through protest murals following the murder of George Floyd, pushing the number within the city over the impression mark of 1,000.

According to Art Rudick, a retired engineer and creator of Atlanta Street Art Map, Ashley Dopson’s “Black Lives Matter” mural on the driveway of Kipp Strive Academy in the Westview neighborhood was the 1000th mural.

In September and October, the ATL1000 campaign will honor the artists who created these distinctive works through several celebratory murals, digital exhibitions, installations and walking tours.
