Autoeater Replaces Midtown’s Rockspinner

by admin

In April, Midtown bid adieu to the 22,000-pound Rockspinner sculpture that sat on the corner of 10th and Peachtree streets. The Midtown Alliance recently installed its replacement – Autoeater.

The 16-ton marble sculpture, shipped from a quarry in northern Italy, is carved from Carrara marble and intends to spark conversation. The sculpture, created by Julia Venske and Gregor Spänle, “invites comments on Atlanta’s relationship with the automobile in the context of one of the city’s most walkable urban districts.”

Autoeater comes on the heels of the I-85 bridge collapse when Atlanta’s public transportation saw an increase.
