Other than their African American celebrity status, boxer Muhammed Ali and actor Lincoln Perry had almost nothing in common. Ali was one of the most celebrated athletes of all time, while Perry’s film persona and stage name – “Stepin Fetchit” – remains one of the most controversial African American stereotypes in history.
Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company’s production of Fetch Clay, Make Man examines the unlikely friendship formed between the two men during Ali’s training for his rematch with Sonny Liston.
Fetch Clay, Make Man runs through November 22. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors and $20 for students.
