Forest to fairs: The evolving history of Piedmont Park

by The 100 Companies

Home to festivals, sporting events, summer camps, and picnics, Piedmont Park is a beloved urban oasis for Atlantans. What many don’t know is that Atlanta’s most central park has a deep history dating back to the early 1800s.

Beginning as a forest, the land the park now occupies was repurposed numerous times throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, transforming first into farmland and then fairgrounds for several expos including a World’s Fair before being purchased by the City of Atlanta in 1904. It then began years of development into the urban park we know today.
