Haunted Atlanta: The Ellis Hotel

by

In honor of Halloween, this month we’re highlighting some of Atlanta’s real-life haunted places, beginning with The Ellis Hotel.

As the former Winecoff Hotel, this boutique hotel was home to the deadliest hotel fire in all of U.S. history. In 1946, the fire claimed 119 lives – nearly one third from jumping out windows to escape.

Guests today have reported seeing ghostly figures in the hotel halls and windows, sounds of chaos and running in hallways, and strange smells of smoke. The fire alarm also has been known to go off at 2:48AM – the time the fire started.
