When Midtown Atlanta was edgy

the strip in midtown

My favorite part of attending the Midtown Alliance annual meeting was its slide show, contrasting today’s trendy, business-fueled Atlanta neighborhood with that dark time in the 1970s when Peachtree & 14th streets were … The Strip.

When I was a 14-year-old teen, The Strip was our favorite part of Atlanta. We loved it for many reasons: we could walk amidst the hippies, smell incense and marijuana, hear awesome music and, mostly, because our parents told us to never go there.

In the 1990s, my kids wandered Little Five Points to feel our city’s edge. Where should we go now?
