Receiving its official charter In 1883, Capital City Club was one of the first private clubs established in the South and among the first in Atlanta.
Founded by Bartow M. Blount, Archibald and Joseph T. Orme, and Lewis Redwine, the private club was created to offer an escape from the crowded conditions of the billiard room at the Kimball House, Atlanta’s most prominent hotel of the era. Some of Atlanta’s most notable names, such as Ernest Woodruff, Asa Candler and Edwin Ansley have been members.
Capital City Club, now in its 135th year, has three locations: Downtown, Brookhaven and Crabapple.
