AJC Peachtree Road Race

by

In 1970, 150 runners gathered at the old Sears parking lot on the corner of Peachtree and Roswell roads to run the inaugural 6.2-mile Peachtree Road Race held annually on the Fourth of July.

Known as the “Original 110,” 110 runners crossed the finish line. In 1976, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution became the main sponsor of the race, changing the name to the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Now, 60,000 racers compete.

The course has remained the same, except in 2008 when a drought caused the course to be changed to Juniper Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue.
