This past weekend, Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation staff explored, educated and celebrated with board members, trustees, hundreds of guests and the warm south Georgia folks in Americus and Plains. The nearby towns, approximately 150 miles south of Atlanta, are home to the 39th President, Jimmy Carter.
Among the beautiful homes open to tours, a favorite was the Furlow Gatewood home. With colossal ceilings, gigantic windows, hand-painted hardwood floors and stunning lattice columns on the front porch, this home surely came from heaven. Please view slideshow.
