Atlanta’s iconic Krispy Kreme on Ponce to return this summer

by The 100 Companies

Built more than 60 years ago, the original Krispy Kreme location on Ponce De Leon Avenue served as one of the donut chain’s first stores outside of North Carolina and Tennessee. This summer, a new Krispy Kreme is set to open where that original establishment once stood.

The original location has a surprisingly rich history – when thousands of mourners came to Atlanta for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s funeral in 1968, the store donated 150 dozen donuts to local churches to help keep people fed.

Owned by basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, the new location will be called Shaq’s Shop.
